MSU Tawi-Tawi visits Indonesia's Bogor Agricultural University (IPB)
As part of its growing efforts to build international linkages and exchanges with academic institutions, MSU Tawi-Tawi has now turned to neighboring Indonesia to seek ties and forge agreements. A group of 8 members from the management, personally led by Chancellor Mary Joyce Z. Guinto-Sali, was in Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) for a 2-day official visit from December 16 to 17.
The team was officially received by the Rector Prof. Dr. Arif Satria, Vice Rector for Collaboration and Information System Prof. Dr. Dodik Nurrochmat and Deputy Director for Collaboration and International Relations Dr. Ing Dase Hunaefi. Chancellor Guinto-Sali and Vice Rector Nurrochmat were classmates in Georg-August Gottingen University in Germany.
Pursuant to the existing Memorandum of Understanding signed last November 15, 2018 by Rector Prof. Dr. Satria and President Prof. Dr. Macaayong, representing IPB University and MSU respectively, a Memorandum of Agreement was inked between MSU-TCTO's Institute of Oceanography and Environmental Science and College of Fisheries, and IPB's Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. The new MOA focuses on research collaboration, faculty and student exchanges, and community service endeavors in the areas of integrated seaweed studies, marine sciences and fisheries, with said MOA signed by Dr. Luky Adrianto (Dean, IPB Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences), Dr. Sheriffa T. Andas (Dean, MSU TCTO Institute of Oceanography and Environmental Science) and Dr. Jurma A. Tikmasan (Dean, MSU TCTO College of Fisheries), and witnessed by Dr. Mary Joyce Guinto-Sali and Hiroshima University's Dr. Kazuhiko Koike
The visit also enabled the team to see the laboratories of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. Dr. Richard Dumilag, Prof. Concepcion Toring and Prof. Cherry Nian presented and discussed the existing research outputs of the university on seaweeds and aquaculture. The Innovation Center of IPB was also part of the visit, in line with MSU-TCTO's plan to widen its innovation initiatives and product manufacturing from locally-produced components. A short trip to the Zoological Museum, Botanical Museum and the Bogor Botanical Garden was also made by the team.
Asked about their recent visit in Bogor, the Chancellor is excited on the new partnership forged between the two institutions. She plans to send two (2) faculty members for graduate studies in IPB, in the next year or so.
With the Chancellor during the official visit were: Prof. Magsaysay S. Werble (Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance), Director Alnasul K. Sali (Head Executive Assistant, OC), Dr. Surma Werble (Director, Office of International Linkages), Dr. Sheriffa T.
